Tanunda Lutheran Church (Langmeil)

Tanunda Lutheran Church (Langmeil)

A historic Lutheran church in Tanunda whose surrounding precinct holds some of the Barossa's oldest German graves and stories.

The Barossa was settled largely by Lutheran families fleeing religious persecution in Prussia, and the valley's churches are central to that heritage. The Langmeil precinct in Tanunda is among the most significant, its steeple and old cemetery telling the story of the earliest German arrivals in the 1840s.

It remains an active place of worship as well as a quiet heritage stop. Wander the grounds to read the headstones and you'll find the surnames that still run through the valley's wineries and bakeries today.
