Barossa Chateau

A grand 19th-century mansion of art, antiques and rose gardens

Rising above the vines south of Tanunda, the Barossa Chateau is one of the valley's more theatrical surprises — a grand mansion crammed with European fine art, antique furniture, porcelain and chandeliers, surrounded by formal rose gardens and lawns.

The house operates as a private gallery and event space, and a wander through its rooms feels closer to a country-house museum than anything else in the Barossa. The grounds are the real draw in spring, when the roses are in full flush.

It is an easy detour for anyone driving the back roads between Lyndoch and Tanunda, and pairs naturally with a morning at the nearby cellar doors.
