Mountadam Vineyards
One of the Eden Valley's pioneering high-altitude estates, famous for chardonnay grown on its own granite-and-quartz hilltop.
Mountadam sits at around 550 metres on High Eden, some of the most elevated vineyard country in the Barossa zone. The estate was a pioneer of serious Australian chardonnay, and that grape remains its signature — taut, mineral and a world away from the warm valley floor.
The drive up is half the experience: a climb through gum forest and ridgelines that feels nothing like the manicured valley below. At the top, the cellar door pours chardonnay, riesling and a couple of elegant reds.
For anyone who thinks the Barossa is all big, warm shiraz, Mountadam is the rebuttal.
