Bethany Wines
A sixth-generation family cellar door perched in the ranges above Tanunda, with one of the prettiest valley views in the Barossa.
Bethany Wines is run by the Schrapel family, who have grown grapes in this corner of the Barossa since the 1840s — the village of Bethany below was the valley's very first German settlement. The cellar door is built into an old bluestone quarry, and from the deck the whole valley floor unrolls beneath you.
The range is classic Barossa: generous shiraz, grenache and a long-lived white. There is no restaurant and no fuss, just good wine and a view that earns repeat visits.
Come late in the afternoon, when the light goes gold across the vines and the village rooftops below catch fire.
