Talunga Recreation Park
Mount Pleasant's showgrounds and village green - home of the Saturday farmers market, the annual country show, ovals, a playground and a caravan park.
Talunga Recreation Park is Mount Pleasant's all-purpose green heart - a sprawl of showgrounds, ovals, playground equipment and shady camp sites on the edge of town. The name comes from one of the three original townships (Totness, Talunga and Hendryton) that grew together to form modern Mount Pleasant.
It earns its keep year-round. Every Saturday morning the showground pavilion fills with growers and producers for the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market, one of the most genuine country markets in the region. The park also hosts the annual Mount Pleasant Show and regular equestrian events, and its caravan park makes a quiet, budget-friendly base for exploring the southern Barossa and Eden Valley.
Families will find plenty of lawn for a picnic and a kick of the footy, and the Torrens - here a modest country stream - runs close by. It's a fine first stop before heading deeper into Mount Pleasant and the high country beyond.
