Mengler Hill Road

The high, twisting drive over the eastern ranges

Mengler Hill Road climbs out of the valley floor and over the eastern ranges that separate the Barossa proper from the Eden Valley high country. It's the prettiest way to cross between Tanunda and Angaston.

The road twists up through gum-studded grazing country to the celebrated Mengler Hill lookout and its sculpture trail, where the whole patchwork of the valley spreads out below. Early morning and late afternoon are best for both light and quiet.

Cyclists love the climb; drivers love the views. Either way it's one of the Barossa's great short scenic routes.
